iPod Serial AiR Mode

Hi, Im starting up a project where I create sequences synced up with music. I thought about using my iPod to play the music via the serial dock connector, getting the time elapse through the mode 4 AiR protocol to sync up the the sequence. After searching through the forums It appeared that people were having a hard time getting data back in AiR mode, but at the same time all the post I found were old. Most of them talked about the ipod being 3.3v and arduino being 5v, when now the Duemilanove has a 3.3v power supply. So has anyone successfully controlled the ipod in AiR mode from the arduino?

Also I would like to still use my ipod to supply the sound but if anyone else thinks of a better idea to sync the music, feel free to let me know.
