IR helicopter controller used for car.

Ok so I already sort of made a post about this but I thought this would be a good place for some guidance.

I bought a helicopter a few days ago (UDI - U801). I broke it and I would like to use the controller as a controller for my car/robot thing I am creating. I figured this is the cheapest way to make this remote control.

I have a few questions to ask:

  1. Will this even work what I am saying?

  2. The controller has a throttle, and then a joystick that controls the forward/reverse and left/right.

  3. Could I use any IR receiver? Or do I need the one that came with the toy.

  4. Could I use the whole circuit board from the helicopter? Instead of removing the IR reciever.

  5. How should I go about reading the information from the controller?

Any other things that might be helpful please let me know. Thank you in advance.
