IR Infrared Reflectance Sensor

Hey,

I must of not searched properly but I'm unable to find a correct answer on the best practise of using this sensor.

(This is the one I purchased: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170803376705)

I know red +5, black GND and yellow is the data cable, now will I need to use any sort of resistor to help me read the value, also would this be best used on the Analog pin or Digital pin.

I'm not home untill Friday so I'm unable to test anything, so looking for some pre-advise before I get home so I can get stuck in :slight_smile:

Thanks!

From the "BuyInCoins" description:

"Features:
The detection distance can be adjusted according to the demand.
The sensor has a detection range of 3cm-80cm.
The switching signal output differs in accordance to the obstacles.
It remains high when no obstacles and remains low when there are obstacles.

I think that roughly translates to "Signal line goes LOW when object is detected." I think that means you should use a digital pin.

xerof,
If it responds like other range-finders, then

  1. be prepared to get a noisy signal
  2. you'll need a conversion-table/algorithm for signal->cm

:slight_smile: Will try when I'm back home. - I'm not too fussed about the converstion, as I mainly want it just for picking up when an object goes past. I have an ultrasonic ranger finder for distance anyway.

Thanks
