I have been attempting to identify what types of sensors to utilize for determining the positioning of a stand alone IR laser.
The reason for this project is that I am trying to develop a dry firing aid. I plan to utilize an Advanced Target Pointer Illuminator
Aiming Laser. This is a mounted IR laser that operates at a wavelength of 835 (+/- 15) nm, a beam divergence of 0.5 milradian, output power (high) 27.5mW, output power (low) 700 uW.
I know there are non-contact laser triangulation sensors but those supply the IR laser from within the device itself. There are also position sensitive devices/detectors but my goal is to utilize normal paper targets or even a sheet of printer paper with a target printed on it.
I am trying to determine a way I can use my laser with a sensor near the target that will observe the position of impact from the laser is on the target, convert that position into x,y data points (with 0,0 being the center of the target) that can be described as sin (how far from 0,0) the laser shot was.
I know there are photo sensitive targets but I would love to know if anyone has more experience with photoelectric sensors that might be what I am looking for.
Thank you for your time and responses.
