Does anyone know of the best microcontroller compatible ir receiver. How far could you theoretically sense an Infrared led, perhaps even a narrow beam one?
SO much depends on the environment, don't you think? Bright sunlight,sense will be zero distance. In a well lighted room, also likely zero or a few inches. In a sealed room with no other IR emitters, likely 30 feet.
A narrow beam has no bearing, the problem is other IR emitters.
Have you looked at garage door IR modules? They work great and the interface is simple. The load changes when something is sensed.
