IR LED with bigger range?

Hello.

I setup a IR LED to remote control some devices in my bedroom.

It works fine except the fact it only works if i point the IR LED to device and if i am close to it.

I have a remote control that works fine even when i point it to any direction and i would like to know if there is a way or a specific IR LED that can do that.

Thank you.

How are you connecting the LED? How many milliamps are you passing through it?

The LED is behind a 100 ohm resistor.

There is only this LED.

Using the cellphone camera i can see the LED is not spreading, it's directional.

You could try a lower ohm resistor or add more IR leds... this may require a mosfet..

What's connected to each end of that?

? -> 100Ohm -> Led-> ?

Arduino digital pin -> 100 ohm -> LED -> ground

Arduino digital pin -> 100 ohm -> LED -> ground

Those LEDs usually require about 100mA so you can't power them with an Arduino pin.

You need an external transistor or something.

1.use multiple led's together can increase the range
2.Double convex magnifier can increase that range
3.more power in,more range.but not extreme
