IR Sensor Advice - Component Sourcing

Hi all!

I’m working on a project for Uni and its ran into a dead end due to the components not
being versatile enough. I’m using IR sensors, they have great range on them, however
they only pickup a signal thats directly in front of them. This isn’t useful as I need my
project to have a sensory width of about 30º and a distance of at least 2m, however
I can’t find any sensors that fit this description. Does anyone know of any sensors like
or similar to these specs?

Thanks in advance,

Jack

Something like: http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/1137 perhaps?

“project ran into a dead end”… is that a pun?

Thats the exact model I have, they only pick an object placed directly in front of it :~ If you could suggest another or an alternative type of sensor, I'd really appreciate it!

and no pun intended :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Thanks again,

The typical solution is to mount the sensor on a servo and wave it around. What are you sensing?

Ultra sonic sensors have a wider field of view. But I mount Sharp IR sensors on micro servos as PaulS suggested.

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to sense a person's position in a room, however mounting the sensors on micro servos will create more problems I think as I need to keep moving parts to a minimum. The US sensors might be the answer though, so long as they aren't seceptable to interference :~ I'll look into them in more detail!

Thanks for all your help!

Use more than one sensor?

Use more than one sensor?

Unfortunately I’m working to a cost and it not a great deal lol. I had considered using a sensor array but it would work out to being a lot of cash =(

Thanks again!
