Hi guys,
I bought two of these prebuild ir sensors which have a potentiometer for easy range adjustment. I cranked it in each direction just to see how far they go but when I turned them back into normal range they just stayed activated.... Do you guys think I could have killed it by turning it all the way up ?

You know what "these prebuild ir sensors..." are but we don't. A link to them might help.

They pick up ambient IR as well as the reflection of their own IR LED. So you have to either shield it from this (sunlight is a major source, incandescent bulbs as well, other light bulbs much less so) or set the sensitivity to a level that it's not triggered by ambient IR.

I built shields for the sensors like wvmarle suggested and now work perfectly fine
