Is it possible for a same IR to act both as a tx and a rx?
If so, is there any kind of specifications for it?

Hi,
I am not sure what advantage you expect from a transmitter and receiver in the same package ?
I have used side facing Emitters and detectors to make a single unit -
It works well for line following, counting and rpm measuring applications, I have not tested it over distance but would expect a 38khz system would be better over distance where noise resilience is more important.
If you needed a 38khz signal system, you could take a similar approach.
