Is a network shield required to do GETPOST?

I have a feeling this may be an incredibly dumb question, and i'm quite sorry if it is, but by means of being thorough i was wondering if someone could tell me if I need some kind of network shield to be able to use POSTGET requests using my arduino. I've got an NFC shield and I need to send the data stored on the tag to my web server. Again, sorry if this is a dumb question, but thanks and I appreciate your help! P.S. The arduino is connected to my pc via usb

The POST and GET are used with internet/ethernet/network. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POST_%28HTTP%29

Yes, you need some kind of network shield. It can be an Ethernet Shield, or Wifi shield, or even the Arduino Yun.

Thank you for your reply. And I just stumbled across this forum post that was helpful as well http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=258573.0
