Is an Arduino fast enough to read its own PWM lines? (cool or dumb idea)

"Bit banging" is EXACTLY what I am looking for. Same with "Soft PWM".
This link on this site shows 14 Arduino output pins doing PWM with no external chips.

My app would be even simpler, since I do not need the sine wave part.
