Is Arduino my path?

Hi! Very new here, and have a project in mind that I'm hoping I can use Arduino for. I want to get the Starter Kit, but want to make sure this is the right path.

The project is this: a dark pathway strung with a series of pendant lights (up to 50/100 lights). Sensor (many) which line the pathway to identify where people are walking. A controller which turns the lights on generally where the people are. Bonus: the ability to 'twinkle' or 'fade' the lights on and off.

Does this sound like an Arduino-capable task? Will the beginner's kit set me on this path?

Yes.
Yes, for maybe 1-2 lights to start depending on what sensors are used.

Look in the playground for I/O expansion. You will nedd to work up to the size you want but it can be doe with the arduino.

You have a great deal to learn - enjoy doing that, then come back to your project.
