Is it a serious problem? System and file restore screws up cloud storage.

So today I was making a system backup image for my laptop.

It then hit me: if I do need to restore system, what happens to my cloud storage, such as skydrive and dropbox? Will I see the newly restored system boot up and start deleting all current files on these cloud storage and replacing them with older versions?

I just started using skydrive to store my work files. It would be disaster if I do a restore on even one of my computers and somehow removed all recent files and replaced with older files or even losing my files completely due to confusion. Imagine an admin at my workplace for some reason re-images my office computer without telling me.

So busy backup-ers and system admins and other experienced folks, what do you think? Am I imagining a problem or is it real?

I realize that I don't really know how cloud storage synchronization works.

I do have limited experience:

I once installed dropbox on a laptop and didn't turn it on for a while. I then turned it on and it took some hours to resync all the files. This does mimic my hypothetical system restore situation and the result was alright. So is my concern unnecessary then?

With Dropbox and OneDrive (AKA Skydrive) you can log into the web interface and undelete files.
For me I always store the dropbox folder on a non system partition/drive so if I restore Windows from an image I don't loose data. I also use a portable version of dropbox that need no install.
