I think we're talking about different users - this one didn't even bother posting on the forum, just spammed about four or five top posters.

Ah well, it motivated me to add an extra "smart filter" to my Mail program to warn me when various people post new topics, so I'll know to ignore them.
His meter had 2 out of 5 stars! It had to be a good-en! My Fluke didn't have any stars. 
On a serious note, my Fluke 79 has briefly been put across 480volts AC while in ohm reading mode. I had been troubleshooting a bunch of different pieces... It makes a loud beeeeep until you take the leads off of the live power. I was lucky that it is a good meter. In the book that came with it, they say you can go across live voltage for up to 20 seconds. I have never tested that but, it is nice to know Fluke planned for the possible mistake.
Dave Jones tested a whole lot of meters by shoving them into a 240 volts power point (in resistance mode I think). He was brave, I must say.
I think they all survived more-or-less, although some took a while to recover. Probably their thermal fuse cut in.

While it obviously doesn't mean what the user wants it to mean, one of the little known areas of C and C++ is that you can do:
int foo(int n){ return "0123456789abcdef"[n & 0xf]; }and
int bar(int n){ return (n & 0xf)["0123456789abcdef"]; }
