Oh yeah, that too.

Arduino is OPEN-SOURCE, so this is not illegal.

There is a difference between using code I wrote, which I freely allow you to use, and claiming that you wrote it.

So to follow on from this, people who claim to make Arduinos (and are not officially licensed) are lying. Do you understand the difference?

See: http://arduino.cc/en/Main/FAQ

"Arduino" is a trademark of Arduino team and should not be used for unofficial variants.

Which is called passing off and is illegal.

On what basis?

The board could be confiscated by customs.

A lot of stuff can be coonfiscated by customs, sometimes wrongly.

the FCC and other approval

I find this quite interesting. Why did the arduino team think it was necessary to be certified for CE/FCC? and under what rules was the arduino certified? Unlike (all?) FCC certification I have seen, the arduino board has just a fcc logo and no cert number. I suspect that it is part 15. But many such emitters (broadcast radio for example) don't have part 15 cert. And earlier arduino boards had no fcc cert of any kind (at least they didn't show any). So if the arduino team thought that it was legally required to have the cert now, it must be the case that they thought those earlier boards are illegal in the US.

Anyway, with or without the cert, it doesn't bother me.

Ok, Ok, lets get over it. It wasn't confiscated and now is lying within a foot of or two to my right (but, it was lying in customs for a LONG time (1 week to be exact)).

Yes you only need a certification number for an intentional emitter. But it is the logo placed on a product without the accompanying certificate that is illegal.

Sadly not. I hope no one ever rips you off because there will be a whole heap of people who don't care.

Ok, everyone, I will now close this thread.
