Is Linear Stepper Motor necessary?
This is Meng meng@gtwmotor.com from GTW Motor supplier of Linear Stepper Motors, I am thinking is Stepper Motor with Leadscrew necessary for a Reprap builder?

No.
.. I had to go look at what a linear stepper means. The 'linearity' refers to the transmission of the 'motor rolling' -> linear back & forth movement. If the price is right, I may go for such stuff the next time around. It's my impression, that repRappers starts out with discarded electronics (like old printers) and uses the stuff inside -- it would be some strike of extreme luck if you found a linear stepper. Once you've attempted a couple of failed transmissions yourself .. you start to appreciate such stuff.
So .. are you aimed at the final product or the good sport of getting there from scrap?

Depends on what you want. Another way is to use a belt, but often that give a motion that is too course. A linear stepper has a much finer motion (less distance per step) and that may be preferable to coming up with a gearbox to increase the resolution.
