Is my Arduino BT defective?

I just got a new Arduino BT. I connected it using 4 1.2V batteries and powered it up. When I power it up the 3v3 amber light turns on, but the power light (which I think should be green) does not. Is that ok?

I can find the board as a bluetooth device, and can pair with it from a windows and a Mac machine. However, I cannot upload the blink program.

On windows I get these errors,

avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00 avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x51

on Mac I get,

avrdude:stk_500_recv(): programmer is not responding

I have tried the fixes on the troubleshooting boar. They are not working.

Any help on what these errors mean would be great.

I also had this problem. Not too sure if the error codes were exactly as you say, but it was because the usb port was not selected correctly. I have a real serial port 1 and the usb needed to be selected as port 3. Goto tools/serial port. Also there might be an issue with your supply, the recommended is 7-12 volts
