Is the sensor supposed to be attached to the falling object ? Or watching the falling object ?
Most of the accelerometer sensor devices have the capability to detect "free fall". The supposed purpose of this, is that if you drop your laptop off the table, it can detect this and shut down the hard disk before it hits the floor.
