Is There Such a Switch That...

I have a dilemma comming across a project i want to tackle. Basically, one of the things i need it to do is have ONE switch that controls 3 inputs to 3 outputs. Basically, i want it that so when switch is on, input 1 outputs to output 1, input 2 outputs to output 2, and output 3 outputs to output 3. May be kinda confusing, but if there is, please notify me! I was thinking it would be a switch with 6 prongs, 3 for inputs, 3 for outputs, but i didnt know.

Thanks
Macke

That would be a "Three Pole Single Throw" (3PST) switch. Alternatively you can use a Three Pole Double Throw (3PDT) switch and only use 6 of the 9 terminals.

Yes there are switches like that, and/or you can compose such switches too.

If you need a more fitting answer, you should supply more information like:

  • What kind of signals you want to switch
  • What size of switch is acceptable
  • How do you want to control the swicth

And anything else that might shed some insight in what you want.

Okay! Thanks alot for your..very appreciated knowledge!

And for this question, i just needed a basic yes or no answer so i didnt think i needed much info. But when i do need more of an answer, ill be sure to add alot more info!

Well, it seems i do need to add more info because i cant seem to find a good one. Im only finding like double throws, which said i could use, but i rather have just what i need and not more.

Im doing this sort of project so it would have 12V DC at 2A-4A. Just a simple switch for controlling 3 separate inputs at the same time.

Thanks

You can use 1 switch connected to the grids of 3 transistors. Each will have its own flow.
Transistors running fully opened are switches.

DigiKey.com has several 3PST toggle switches. Most are from NKK. This one is cheapest:

Transistors with grids. Someone thinking of the good old days ?

Someone has trouble remembering terms he doesn't use often. What's the word? Is it base? Oh yeah, base, collector, emitter.

But with resistors and transistors 1 pin or switch can turn many on/off affordably and reliably.
