Is this a new weird scam?

I am getting packages addressed to my PO box and street address, but for other people. things I would not spend money on. a satin linen card table cover, purple camera boxes, and a few more. paid in full with someone elses credit card. three names so far. one of them Zabasearches to a machine gun training instructor for HMMVs in Oklahoma.

everybody who hears about it thinks it's a scam first thing. I can't see a profit angle. has anyone heard of this?

Sounds like an old scam where they expect you to contact the seller and make arrangements to do something that requires your financial information. The legal response, as I recall, is to just keep the stuff or put in garbage.

I've heard of a different scam.

Say you advertise you are selling something for $500 plus $50 shipping. A buyer sends you a certified check for $1,000 that includes shipping. Then they contact you and say they screwed up because the shipping was $50, not $500, and ask for $450 refund. You deposit the check in you account, and send them the $450 back. Weeks later, your bank says the check was fake and now you are in deep.

In this case you are not selling anything, but I guess if you contact them they will ask you to send them their stuff and send you a check to cover shipment expenses.

But mistakenly, the check amount was too high...

Another possibility is a brushing scam

Who is the sender or what is the return address, and what carrier are they using?

In our street we had several of those very low value Amazon shipped items delivered. That was a Amazon scam by someone who wants to generate some positive reviews for their Amazon shop.
Amazon has a page to report them, so they can take the shop offline when multiple complaints arrive.

There is a "Report Unwanted Package" link on the page, but you need an Amazon account to make a report.

In our case, no more packages arrived.

no doubt. a satin card table cover in OK is suspicious as it gets

If that's the USPS you should be able to let them handle it. When I get mail to my address with someone else's name on it I write "not at this address" on it and put it back in my mailbox and the mail carrier takes it away.

You shole be able to do the same with UPS or Fed-Ex but you'd probably have to bring it to them.

it's everybody. at the post office it's an opportunity to interact with the stunning heartbreaker blonde postmaster. at the house I have to keep an eye on the driveway camera to intercept the delivery driver. at this time I am just putting them in one of my unrunning vehicles ( everyone around here has a sideyard junkyard. it's like an African nation where the quantity of cows you have determine your wealth. not the quality, just the quantity ). anybody wants them, just show up and ask. not my circus, not my monkeys.
