I have a project that uses an 8ohm, 8watt speaker that has stopped working. (confirmed it is the speaker itself)
The speaker itself (cone) is just over 3", but the whole metal frame is just under 4" (Diagonally, the screw holes are 3.86"/98.2mm apart, and screw holes on the same side are 2.12"/54.0mm. I can drill new holes in the speaker, but the overall dimension is restricted by the case.
Any suggestions on a quality replacement speaker? Optimized for voice is best.
"Optimized for voice" - can you explain what that means to you? Normally voice means a
comms speaker, which is usually poor sound quality, but definitely optimized for voice only!!
Dayton Audio do a range of quality drivers of all sorts, and are resold in many places.
But why has the old one failed? If its the amp driving it that's gone wrong you risk burning
out the replacement. First step is to check the DC and AC voltage going to the terminals.
The DC offset should be 0.1V or less, with an AC signal only when the volume is up.
Is this part of a multi-driver unit? Could you give actual details please, like model numbers,
photo, etc.
