Isolation

I'm not sure what to call it but I want to be able to isolate code development for each project. (As a result of needing good search terms I could only ask here)

The arduino ide at first seems good but then I start getting messages about the ide finding multiple libraries and the project doesn't make.
I don't see how to isolate each project.

In C development one specifies the path to the selected libraries. Is there is a way to specify libraries or a description of the search order.

I failed at using the portable method on 3 machines. I thought that might work but it doesnt seem population enough to get help.

Any advice on your coding environment would be appreciated.

I'm not an expert on the way that the Arduino IDE finds libraries.

For some of my projects I have put a copy of a library in my program directory after giving the library a different name. Then I do #include "myLibraryVersion". It means if I copy the project to a different PC I can be sure the exact same library is used.
