isp sketch on atmega8/NG

Hi friends,
I have a handful of atmega8 chips. Can I use one of it on breadboard, to implement ISP, using the ISP sketch?

I did the following-

  1. Uploaded sketch to atmega8 on breadboard with NG bootloader
  2. Connected digital pins 10,11,12,13 of ISP to the corresponding target pins.
  3. Through the usb-break-out board, tried to program the target chip.

I tried it but in vein :disappointed_relieved:
I don't find any electrical connection mistake in my circuit.
Due to some reasons, is it non-feasible to implement arduino-as-isp on atmega8/Ng board?
Thanks.

When using ArduinoISP you connect Pin 10 to Reset on the target board, not to Pin 10.

Hi,
I also have a few ATMega8's I was looking for a USB to SErial programmer project so that I could use them for programming breadboard/standalone Arduinos. I found a few links but have not had the time to progress this yet.
