Issues running bootloader on a board currently programmed

Grabbed an UNO an have a Blink sketch run to it. Not quite sure what happened but it gives me this error trying to run a new code to it from the IDE

Arduino: 1.8.19 (Windows 10), Board: "Arduino Uno"

Double check chip, or use -F to override this check.

avrdude done. Thank you.

Do you have the correct port selected from the Port menu? It looks like it's not finding your Uno on the com port you have selected.

i've double checked using the GUI in pUTTY to verify that it was the only COM port currently available. Is it possible i've damaged it's ID?

Are you running Blink on the board now or are you trying to upload blink?

This is the device signature for an atmega328p

This is the device signature for an atmega328

Have you at any time edited the boards.txt file to change the following line:

uno.build.mcu=atmega328p

Not that i was aware of. Do you think re-installing the IDE could help?

I wouldn't do anything that drastic until someone more familiar with the mechanics of avrdude can comment, it appears that the command for avrdude does have "-partmega328p", so not sure where it is getting the incorrect signature.

Both, the new Blink i'm trying to upload would have a 3 second on time

Odd, I appear to be using the same version of the Arduino IDE and avrdude, but get the following when I upload the a sketch:

avrdude: AVR device initialized and ready to accept instructions

Reading | ################################################## | 100% 0.00s

avrdude: Device signature = 0x1e950f (probably m328p)

So the signature appears to be acceptable, no idea why it is getting rejected in your case.

And you're programing an uno, no wire connects?

Programming a genuine Arduino UNO with the BlinkWithoutDelay sketch. Nothing connected to the UNO. That appears to be the correct device signature.
