This message can have multiple causes, from not selecting the correct COM port on the IDE to not having installed the appropriate board driver.
Is this the first time you use this board?
Is it a clone or a genuine Arduino? If it's a clone, most of them use a CH340 chip to connect to USB, have you installed the driver?
Is there something connected to RX or TX pins on the Arduino?
