it's embarrassing to ask but how do i use search

no matter what I search for, this is the result I get :

Your search query didn't return any matches.

I have tried checking different boxes etc. no luck.

I search for lcd. there should be nine thousand hits. but instead i get the above message.

what the heck am i doing wrong ?
