Java Error on Attempted Opening of 1.0.5 IDE with OS X 10.6.8

I have a Macbook running OS X 10.6.8.
The Java version on my Macbook is 1.6.0_65-b14-462-10M4609.
When I attempt to run 1.0.5 following an install, I get the following error message

[0x0-0x28028].cc.arduino.Arduino[356] [JavaAppLauncher] Requested [1.5*], launching in [1.6] instead.
[0x0-0x28028].cc.arduino.Arduino[356] [LaunchRunner Error] processing.app.Base.main(String[]) threw an exception:
[0x0-0x28028].cc.arduino.Arduino[356] java.lang.NullPointerException

I would appreciate help with getting this corrected.
