Assuming you can specify the wiring inside the plugs and the message that you want to produce for each set of connections that should be straightforward.

However you have not given us much information.

It is much easier to give useful advice if you tell us what the project is all about rather than just ask about a specific part of it.

Hi Robin2 apologies! For my project I will need to distinguish what type (gain/offset) of plug it is and determine the class (eg. 1-100). I will also have to hard code for 244 unique jumper interconnections that vary between 0 - 5 connections each. Each of these connections will tell me the type and class.

example:
1-2 3-4 5-6 7-8 9-10

The plug will have 10 ports (1 to 10).

So the issue I am facing is which ports do I use (or do I need to buy an I/O extension), and also how I should connect the entire thing together (sorry im new :)) + 1x liquid crystal display for output
