Hi Robin2 apologies! For my project I will need to distinguish what type (gain/offset) of plug it is and determine the class (eg. 1-100). I will also have to hard code for 244 unique jumper interconnections that vary between 0 - 5 connections each. Each of these connections will tell me the type and class.example:

So the issue I am facing is which ports do I use (or do I need to buy an I/O extension), and also how I should connect the entire thing together (sorry im new :)) + 1x liquid crystal display for output

You should realize that you have a lot of information in your head that is not being communicated to us.
Pick two or three of the specific plug types that you want to be able to detect and post their details - how they are wired and what you expect the Arduino to detect and to report. Wiring schematics would be a big help.
What do you mean by "gain/offset". I had the impression from your title and your Original Post that you just want to check for closed or open circuits.
Also, you have not answered my request to tell us what about the project. What is the purpose of these plugs? Where do they come from? Why are you testing them? Are they part of a larger project? What project?
