K40 laser engraver Flow switch

Looking to put together a relay controlled by flow switch as if the water stops flowing through the laser tube, the relay will switch and stop the laser from firing. this will prevent damage to the Co2 tube. would also like to illuminate a led so this will also turn off if the flow is no present.

i know how to disable the laser tube on the relay control side.

I have the Arduino controllable relay just unsure how to wire the switch and led and program it. what would the best Arduino to use?

What switch? Datasheet?

sorry for delays been off on the road

details of switch

  • Water Flow Switch adopts a Magnetic Reed Switch and a movable magnet which is fixed inside the water pipe. When water flows in the pipe, the magnet will detect the water flow and make the reed switch close or open.
  • Widely used in water industrial field, such as green air condition system water heater ETC.

Have you written a short Arduino program to learn how to detect water flow using the switch and display the result on the Serial Monitor? If not, then that is where to start.

...R

not yet looking how to wire before I start to teach my self the programming as have coded in other systems i am sure it wont be rocket science.

my plan is I have put together a control panel on my Laser cutter link to my website.

just putting the components side then will develop the code side as I learn it.

I have a 5v supply ready available from the machine.

got a 5v audrino controlled relay that will tap into the laser activity switch on the high voltage side of the relay.

on the other side will use the flow switch to monitor if water if flowing through the Co2 tube of the laser on the return tube to the water supply bucket. with 2 led attached showing on the panel if the water flow stops as the switch is on or off I want the audrino to turn off the 2 LEDs and activate the relay to kill the laser activity switch. this will stop the laser from firing and damaging the tube.

any help and guidance would be great.

given the description of what you have available, you probably don't need an arduino. your proposed relay's function is already available with the flow switch. you just insert the flow switch contacts in the TTL drive circuit for the LASER control circuit, when flow is interrupted, the flow switch will open the drive control circuit and shut off cathode power to the LASER. Not very elegant and certainly not all that reliable/foolproof, but workable. a far better system would be a temp. sensor on the LASER tube in conjunction with a current sensor in the laser supply. a spike in both/either detected by the microcontroller would then cut the supply. But the more complex/sophisticated you try to make the safety system, the more you are asking something critical to fail and not detect the error,,, and ka-boom, crackle, crackle, fizzle, fizzle........
