Keypad Question

Hi, I'm trying to get a keypad to work with my arduino. I understand about wiring a keypad with rows/columns and such but this keypad in specific has me puzzled. I see the pads are wired diagonally and i'm confused. Could anyone give me any pointers? I have managed to get all 8 pins wired to my Arduino. From the looks of it, it looks like this keypad has two layers, with 4 pins on each and the pads are pressed against each other making contact upon the user pressing a key.

Just looks like a 3x5 keypad.
The diagonals are just defining the buttons in a column.

You sould be able use a ohmmeter to identify the rows and column traces.

Hi, sorry for the delay, been busy. I seem to be getting no where with using the ohm function on my multimeter, could it be me doing it wrong, any guidance possible?

Oh I know how to use an ohmmeter for things like continuity checking, I just don't seem to be getting anywhere with this keypad.

In your image, it appears some of the painted traces may have eroded or broken.

The keypad is fine as before the main panel gave up the ghost (about a month ago now) every button worked perfectly.

Being the keypad is transparent, can you determine what traces are columns and which ones are the rows.

Hi,
That is a OEM keypad for this particular controller, can you post a picture of the front of the pad.

The keys are wired in a network corresponding to the function of each key.

You can see that some keys have a diagonal common trace.

Yes, what do the buttons do, it will help reverse engineer it.

Lol, both of my dogs beds are in the kitchen as it doesn't get too hot there at night.

Lol, both of my dogs beds are in the kitchen as it doesn't get too hot there at night.

Mine are in the lounge room, sleeping on the couch, so they don't get too cold. :smiley:
