Can anyone recommend a kit so that I can physically mount servos and motors etc? I looked up Meccano but they don't seem to make generic pieces anymore. Any ideas?
Mecanno holes are the wrong spacing anyway afaik.
I have pondered this too, and best I can think of is to get some plain flat strip with no holes- maybe aluminium?- and bend and drill to suit.
Servo manufacturers usually provide a set of moulded plastic parts that provide various ways to mount servos - model shops are also likely to sell them.
The best way to mount a motor depends what you mount it to since it usually needs to be mechanically connected to something to take the power, but the most general approach would be a flat plate with a clearance hole for the motor spindle and bearing and a couple of holes for screws through to the motor's mounting holes..
Many hardware shops sell plastic and aluminium angle both of which make very convenient servo mounting brackets.

Lynxmotion makes some servo brackets for the brand of servo they use in their kits. With a little skill you probably could make your own brackets, or just use hot glue to mount the servos.
