knob like a rotary encoder but instead you just turn it say 45 degrees..........

Hi i am using a rotary encoder for a project but it is to tedious to use for a menu, but the boss wants something like it still, So i remember seeing a knob that you can only turn x amount left or right and when you let go it returns to the center, so basically it just has two buttons inside and its a constant contact for the time it is held left or right. What is that called ??? can someone add a link to one or just the name of the device, fyi it must be tiny again its a navigation knob for a menu not some industrial machine switch.

Any help is appreciated, cheers from ed

Ok i have found what i was looking for they are called selector switches but they are too expensive i can only spend say £1 to £1.50

Hi,
I think you'll find this as a Switch not an encoder.

Try google like THIS

Most of what you'll find are toggle switches or rocker switches. You want to find one that is easy to switch.

Years ago I used some "Switchcraft" lever switches in broadcast equipment that were easy to actuate for things like "power up/down".

I think what you are after is this: Thumb Joystick
