L293D Piggyback

I read once here in forum that you can piggyback a H-Bridge L293D if you need more
output current and divide the current so you wont burn them, is that true?

And the real question: How many L293D you can piggyback?

In the data sheet the L293D can give output of 600mA or current per channel if I piggy back
that output will double or triple. I got a project that I need as output about 3 to 5Amps.
What do you think it's a good idea to piggyback 5 or more ? : D
