L298N motor drivers driving me crazy

Ive been working on a project for a long time now, and i just finished soldering a new circuit that powered everything. When i switched it on, my L298N motor drivers turned on like normal, but one of the motors began running. This was really weird considering it had nothing plugged into its signal, as well as the arduino Uno having no code. I did realize that for whatever reason, pressing down on the bottom right corner would make it stop, and k thought that some lf the leads on the bottom must have been contacting a metal screw under it, so i raised the board with standoffs. This fixed it, but now its happening in the other board, and i dont understand why. I do know the L298N is a cheap motor driver and i might just buy a better one, but i would like to get this one to work without it. I did replace both the boards with new L298Ns, and it worked until i mounted it.

That calls for schematics and code. Please read this topic and use it: How to get the best out of this forum - Using Arduino / IDE 1.x - Arduino Forum

Very advisable! Pololu has the best selection of modern motor drivers. The DRV8833 and TB6612 are very efficient replacements for the ancient L298, giving you up to twice the battery life, or twice the motor power (from the same batteries).
