Laptop won't turn on :(

My laptop suddenly turned off when working on a robot using Teensy microcontroller. The robot (along with the microcontroller) is also connected to a 16V 5A power adaptor. The power supply got pulled off by accident. The robot shut off as well as my laptop. The microcontroller worked fine after plugging the power supply back, but my laptop didn't turn on. I tried hard resetting, but still nothing. I already sent my laptop to a repair shop to get it checked, but I'm posting this because I'm anxious:

Is my laptop gonna make it?

Side note:

  1. My laptop is a Dell G15
  2. The robot is a humanoid robot with 27 servos and a Teensy microcontroller along with other components
  3. Power supply: 16V 5A
  4. Laptop was connected to Teensy when the power supply got pulled off.
  5. Visually looking, the components looked fine, but the laptop won't turn on no matter what I do.

weird :grimacing:

the only link between the laptop and the teensy was the USB cable?

is there any chance that the power supply issue sent 16V into the USB cable to the PC?

(Going through a USB hub is usually a good idea to protect the PC's USB ports)

Yes.

No.. The power supply sent 16V to the microcontroller (after going through a voltage regulator, of course) as well as some other boards.

I also find it weird that my laptop turned off but the microcontroller is working fine. I thought the microcontroller would also have problems, but that doesn't seem to be the case since it's working just fine.

Yea I forgot my USB hub, but I was chasing a deadline so I had no choice :frowning:

Oh, and another side note:

  1. It happened once with my old laptop (Acer Swift 3). I forgot to unplug the USB before the power supply. Weird thing is that my laptop turned on after 5-10 minutes and was working fine, whereas my Dell laptop didn't turn on after about an hour or so...

seems best case you tripped some hardware protection. I can't tell much on PC hardware ...

hopefully you'll get good news from the repair shop

Remove the battery if possible, remove power, wait 1 minute, insert battery again, connect PSU and hold down power button for 20 seconds ?

I held down the power button after removing the battery but before connecting the PSU since that was what was instructed in the Dell website for hard resetting. It still didn't turn on, though..
