Large, Simple Display for Timing

Hi,

I am looking to make a timer to be used in direct sunlight. I am looking for a display to use. It will be used in the direct sunlight as well as on a boat so large lettering is paramount, that seems to be the largest issue. I was originally going to use the 128x64 Serial Display in B/W; however, it is large enough. I am looking for a relatively large display with a vertical height of 2-2.5 inches with a horizontal width of 3-4 inches. As for the technology: I am not bound to anything. When I was looking the best seemed to be LCD (the old type no the RGB type) or character displays (dot matrix like the 128x64). Honestly, the best display would probably be a very large watch or digital clock display where it is a seven segment display on and LCD). My last request is that it is easy to program as I am relatively new to programming displays.

Summarized:

Use: A large timer to be used in direct sunlight so readability and size are the main concerns

Size: [width x height] 3"- 4" x 2" - 2.5"

Technology: not specific (LCD, character, seven segment)

Refresh rate: not fast, but its a timer so no eInk

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
