Is it advisory to buy a second hand one,

I would expect 9without any direct experience) that there would be significant advantages to the level of support that comes with a new machine, unless you can't afford it. If you already have a lot of experience, or if this is your second laser cutter, or if you CAN'T afford a new machine, then a used machine becomes more attractive.
If you have a "hackerspace" in your area with a lasercutter (TechShop, sawdust shop, etc) it is my observation that you can buy a LOT of time at such a place for the cost of a new laser cutter...

A secondhand laser cutting machine could be a good option. Just make sure all the control still work and that the machine has had proper maintenance over the years. The drive-shafts should be clean and free of defects...if the owner can show you that it still works, your fine..
i read from a german hackerspace that bought a 1000 dollar china cutter. the software is trash, but the mechanics are actually quite usable. 1000 dollar just gets you a very small cutting area. probably even under A4. tryong to find the link.

Yes the thing is that they are very expensive so there must be a good margin on them. If you look at the so called "cheap" ones even these run out at £8,000 - I can't get that past my wife.
