Laser timer for race cars

Hey guys!!
I'm trying to make a laser timer for a race car. The purpose is to record acceleration time of the car on a specified length of track.
I'm using this laser

I've stepped down the voltage from receiver to suit an Arduino Uno.
I'm planning to use two lasers 1st at the start and 2nd at the end line.
I want to program it in such a way that the timer starts counting when the car crosses the laser at the start line and stops when the car crosses the finish line.
I'm a beginner in coding as well as Arduino. Please give me your valuable suggestions and help me.

Are these full-size race cars or models?

What distance will there be between the laser sensors?

Have you written a short program to learn how to detect a beam break with a single laser?
