Hi Chris

We'll need more detail on what the problem is. But to start things off ...

Using File Explorer, navigate to the folder where the IDE has been installed. The default is C:\Arduino\ I think.

Is there a file called arduino.exe? What happens if you double click it?

Regards

Ray

Run as Administrator ?

And once you find that file, you can right click/drag it to your desktop and create a short-cut there.

I'm having the same problem and it's very frustrating.

When I find arduino.exe and double click it, the splash screen appears for about 2 seconds, and it shows up in the task manager for the same amount of time. Afterwards, any activity disappears.

Any tips?

Hi Chris, I got the program to run by right clicking arduino.exe and clicking Troubleshoot Compatibility, then playing around with it for a while. It worked after a few tries, hopefully it works for you too!

Thanks for the offer of help Ray,

So I click it or double click it the result is the same: Arduino IDE hangs for almost exactly 1 minute then dissapears leaving a message box that states "an error occurred while starting the application". Exactly the same result is provided following an attempt to start the program using "Open as Administrator".

Note: I have already included the arduino.exe in to Windows Firewall exceptions; so it's not that that is preventing its opening.

The only other item that I have thought about is Mr., Oracles Java over which I am a lost cause.

Hope the information is of some help.

Cheers and thanks.

Ray bless you. I've been using Arduino for about two years without a problem then just like Yogi Bear some one or thing came along with a big big mallet and slowly hit me on the head until I'm almost about to drown in the subterranean morass of ...................... whatever it is that's causing this problem. There's another person that's suffering the same thing I see now who has now joined in the thread.

I do hope that you can help me and all others struck down with this computer pox. Thanks.
