LCD contrast declaring war against me?

hello

i have an LCD, tested it and worked fine before,

it had been all the time stucked into a breadboard alone, now when i wanted to wire it up with the 2560, its not working, i returned back to the original simple LCD trouble shooting, and i cant pass the contrast test,

using a variable resistor to pin 3 (contrast pin), with only the back light led is wired up (pins 15 to 5v and 16 to GND), i cant control the contrast, actually i cant see anything except the led backlight.

well i know the contrast setting is sensitive to the variable resistor (so i must move it slooooooowly till i get readings) but at least i must see something..

so my question here, is my LCD broken/not working ? is it something related to the arduino, since am taking my 5v supply from it?

thx for advance

Sure sounds like it.

What about pins 1 and 2?
