Im trying to set up my new LCD according to the tutorial Ladyada lcd tutorial , but when I get to the point where it says to adjust my potentiometer, but it doesn't display both lines, just parts of it.
I have tried rewiring multiple times.
Do i have a defective screen, or am I just making a stupid mistake.

You should explain which parts are displayed. Also post the code.

I am at the point where I have pin15,16, 1,2, and 3 wired.
This is what I get when trying to adjust the contrast.
Do i have a defective screen, or am I just making a stupid mistake.
I haven't come across a mistake, stupid or otherwise, that would cause that kind of problem. Assuming that the potentiometer does have some effect on the brightness/contrast but the same blocks are blank I would suspect a bad display.
Also post the code.
There is no code involved at this point.
