Using Arduino Displays

Hi I am a noob to all this stuff and I have a problem with using a 16x2 line lcd display with an i2c adapter
If that's what it's called.
I have connected it to SDA and SCL on my uno it will only print the first letter on each line of the sketch
Of Hello World example, if I upload the other examples serial print and char string they work perfect.
I have the address 0x27 which I think must be correct because it works with the other examples.
Can some kind person tell me what to do please.

Thanks for your reply I have fixed it I found a thread which had a reply which said change return 0 to 1 in the i2c library and now it's working.
