LCD problem

So this is my first time using an lcd and i got this one

i wired it up just like the tutorial said but when i run the sketch the lcd just shows a random array of ? marks blanks and full blocks. Can anyone help explain what is happening?

Not until you provide us with a photograph of your resulting display that also clearly and unambiguously shows all of your connections, along with a copy/paste version of the actual code that produced the display in the photograph.
