Hello,

Im a beginner who has followed the McWorther course on the arduino.
Now im thinking of making self learning robots in the future.

Is there some sort of path I can follow the best to achieve that goal ?

There are a great number of paths to making robots, but first, explain what you mean by a "self learning" robot and describe what you want it to do.

A university degree in electronics engineering or mechanical engineering or maybe data science or computer science. Choose a course that will allow you to select optional modules so that you have some knowledge in all these areas. This degree will help you get a job in a company that builds self learning robots. This sounds like a great career path for a young person today!

I thought of a robot that can solve a maze or a robot that learns himself to walk.

Then it is impossible.

I live in the Netherlands and university is much higher level then I ever learn or can learn.

If you have the desire and determination to build self learning robots, you will be able to get into a university for those kinds of courses. You are the kind of person those universities are looking for.

I do not think so

IM almost 60 and then I have to achieve 2 higher levels to goto university
Never going to achieve this

Same age as me. I would also love to make self learning robots, but it's hard to find time while I'm still working.

I would like to build a Micromouse, which is a small robot that can solve a maze. There are annual contests in several countries and a worldwide contest also. You can see amazing videos of the winners on YT.

I know that as an amateur, I will never win such a contest, but it would be great to build a robot good enough to enter into a regional contest.

That would be awesome.

But first we have to learn how to make things work,
And I do not see a path to learn or a path what I can make to make this work somewhere in the future.

Right now I trying to make this robot ( [https://www.ottodiy.com/](https://www.ottodiy.com/) ) and adapt it so the head can turn so could run into a maze.

Have you give much thought relating to how YOU would make a computer learn something, like movements or anything else? Most computers forget everything when power is removed.

But I think fast maybe some sort of sd card

or maybe in the memory of the arduino or another pcb with a battery or so ?

I think a good place to start would be a line-following robot. This means you can start pretty simple, following a track painted on a floor surface. But it could develop into a line-maze which could be as difficult to solve as any maze with walls.

You are doing self-learing. You have to design, test and discard many possible ways to do self learning. I do not know, have never attempted self learning software.

But fundamental is programming to remember each decision the software makes and the results of the decision. Recursive programming will look at the prior decision results and see if the test was successful. If not discard that decision and continue. Or something like that.

I had a professional life of these decisions. I use what is called "completion backwards" where I have a goal and ask, "what is the step before that goal?" which creates an intermediate goal. I continue this until I have a map from start to stop.

For example, "I want to hike in Mienchweiler an der Rodalb." Rather than taking the first zeppelin across seas and borders to dock at the retired hospital, I first learn that I need a local train to arrive. To catch that train, I need an inter-regional train to Mannheim. I then learn Mannheim has no international airport, so I find Frankfurt am Main has an international airport (in Wiesbaden). My "goal" is now reduced to the task of finding an international airport that flies to FRA (airport code).

This is "All roads lead to Rome..."

Compare that to the "normal" way... take any flight from here to the other country, then find out how to do the next step. This pidgeon-holes you into limited choices.

This could be the completion of the previous elipsis, "... but none lead home."

Fear nothing.

Why does the head need to turn? It can turn its whole body:

That is correct,
But as far as I can see it cannot see a hole in a maze because it is on the side
It can only detect things right before it.

You will have the same problem with a turning head (which will initially face forwards, presumably). Just make it turn left and right (or 360°) to check the view when an obstacle is encountered in the direction of travel.
