LED and resistor placing (n00b question)

Hi,

Say you have the super simple schema with only a single LED and a resistor. I was wondering if it's important to put the resistor before the LED? Would it burn if I link the 5V to the LED, the LED to the resistor and the resistor to ground?

It's a very basic electronics question, I know... Thanks!

Before or after, it makes no difference.

Look up the concept of components in serese. The current flows through both devices, so the order is not important.

Just don't connect two LEDs to the same resistor. One may be brighter than the other while both are dim.

I can't see how you are going to simplify anything, you can make the layout easer but you still have the same number of components.

As others have said, it matters not which comes first. However it is convention that a current limiting device (the resistor) is generally shown in the circuit before the device it is controlling (the LED).
