I ride often in summer night along the riverside and thinking to rebuilding an old bike with wheels light up for safety recently.
Monkey light and Revolights are bloody expensive and not my choice, i am average cyclist and just need a simple spoke light.
I searched a cheap alternatives on Amazon, it's OuterStar LED wheel light, the customer review looks fine. Basically, i'm up for a affordable, long-lasting, easy to install strings which would tend to make a recognizable outline for a bicycle.
I am newbie and not gear expert like guys in this forum, any insight or experiences would be appreciated, or pls share me a link of the spoke light you are using.
There's nothing wrong with those type of lights.
They are one color unlike the RGB ones which require remote control to change light and lighting effects.
I have the indoor version.
Looks like these are 5V as they run on 3 AA batteries.
In general, a mass-produced off-the-shelf item will be cheaper than building a prototype to do the exact same thing. Economies of scale and all that. By the time to have bought all the LEDs, wired them together, organised power, put silicone goop all over it to make it waterproof - you may as well have had it Made in China.

Hi ieee, thanks very much for your advice, remote control and 3 AA batteries is acceptable for me.
It's just a wheel light and i am not prepared to spend a lot, well, maybe i will still give it a try. Shopping from eBay and Ali before, hope i am lucky to get a good product.
