LED code question

I have a question about the line

memcpy_P( PatternBuf, PatternTable+PatternIdx, PLANESIZE )
What is PatternTable+PatternIdx exactly doing? Because PatternTable is a array of prog_uchar i don't really understand which value is giving to the method.
I understand that PatternTable is your source but how does it work with +PatternIdx. In every loop you count PatternTable+16 but i don't understand how this works.

Think of it like memcpy( PatternBuf, &PatternTable [PatternIdx], PLANESIZE )
