LED Glasses Micro controller replacement

Hey Guys,
i bought some cheap led glasses online ( the ones that have an array of leds you look through, and can write things on). mine came with a few preinstalled animations, but id like to replace the controller with an Arduino so i can make my own animations. i was hopping it would be as simple as it being an array of ws28xx chips i could just control, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It has a stc 8f2k16s2 on the back of it. After researching some about this chip it seems that it not possible to read the code off it and just alter that so a full replacement is probably the next best option. i unfortunately cant find out what leds are on this board, beyond that they run on 3v ish and are white only. the stc chip has quite a few connections on it, but has not used every connection. Any advice on where to start would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Start by drawing a schematic for your device. Use your DVM, digital volt,Ohm meter, to follow the connections.
