LED Help

Hi I’m pretty new to arduino but I’m trying out my first project and hitting a wall. I’m trying to build music redactive lights but currently turning on some more lights or just getting them to change would be great.

I utilized this general build to try and get my LEDS to work but some really weird things are happening. First only the first light of 150 actually turns on and there's no way to change its color or have it turn on or off; it's just stuck on showing green. For some reason the circuit doesn’t work with ground connected to the LEDS. The moment I plug the ground wire from the power supply to the LED it will turn off and return to normal when I take it off. Weirdest thing I’ve seen a circuit ever do. I know I didn’t wire anything wrong from the diagram. Is it possible that this is just an issue with the LEDs? My power supply is a 5V 5amp power supply that is a bit underpowered for lighting up the entire strip with white light but should work for everything else.

To get any further here, you have to post your code and also a link to the LED chain you are using and state the current rating of that powers supply.

That diagram looks very odd to me!

Check that you are connecting the wires to the correct pads on the strip; ground, data in and 5 V.

This is the usual arrangement, but different strips may vary.
